🔌✨ Before Edison... there was a young Canadian with a bright idea.
In 1874, in a small Toronto workshop, Henry Woodward, a Canadian medical student, was experimenting with glass bulbs, carbon rods, and electricity.
He wasn’t a wealthy businessman or a famous scientist, just a curious mind with a passion for invention. Together with his friend Mathew Evans, he created one of the world’s first incandescent light bulbs, a glowing carbon rod in a nitrogen-filled glass bulb. It lit up, it worked, and it even had a screw base, just like the lightbulbs we use today.
But with no money to manufacture it, they made a difficult decision. They sold the patent to another inventor: Thomas Edison.
Today, we’re giving back to the forgotten Canadian heroes.
To Henry Woodward.
To a Canadian.
To a student.
To someone just like you.
